I write American Gothic fiction for readers who enjoy stories that feel real, thoughtful, and just a little uncanny around the edges. I am most at home in books where place matters, communities are complicated, and characters stay with you long after you have turned the last page.
I have been a working novelist for more than twelve years, and my favorite compliment is when a reader tells me that a character has followed them into their week. That is the kind of reading experience I want to offer. My novels are fully human-written, shaped slowly and carefully, with an eye on both atmosphere and emotional truth.
I hold a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing, and I have taught literature, which means I have spent a lot of time thinking about how stories work and why some of them lodge so firmly in our minds. Over the years, my work has received awards, found a loyal group of readers, and opened doors to conversations in classrooms, on panels, and at events. I speak regularly at colleges, universities, and conventions, and I enjoy talking with readers and publishing professionals about genre, craft, and the long tradition of Gothic storytelling in the United States.
Hymn for the Forsaken grows out of many of my long-standing interests as both a reader and a writer. The book sits at the meeting point of American Gothic, literary fiction, and contemporary questions about community, power, and belonging. It is built for readers who like a strong sense of place, layered relationships, and stories that ask you to think as well as feel.
At home, I write in a busy house with five children and plenty of everyday chaos. That daily mixture of ordinary life and ongoing story has shaped the way I work. I write early, late, and in between, carrying notebooks and half-formed questions around with me. In my newsletter I share some of that process, along with what I am reading, what I am watching, and the ideas that are quietly feeding the next book.
If you are here as a reader, you are very welcome. I hope you find a novel that feels like good company and gives you something to turn over in your mind for a while. If you are here as an agent, editor, or publishing partner, I hope this page gives you a clear sense of who I am, how I work, and how seriously I take both the craft and the ongoing relationship with readers.
I am always glad to visit book clubs, festivals, classrooms, and conferences, whether in person or online. Thoughtful discussion around books is one of my favorite parts of this work, and I enjoy tailoring conversations to the needs of each group.

Curl up with a carefully made American Gothic novel that trusts your intelligence, speaks to real life, and is designed to stay with you long after you close the book.
An "exceptional" dystopian tale with "scathing commentaries on police brutality, crime prevention, population control, classism, and state-sponsored murder."

"Quite engaging, with deep, thought-provoking ideas about government."

"UNREGISTERED is one of the more innovative and gratifying novels to enter the dystopian genre."

"I do not have a love of reading like many people do, but I found this book interesting to read. The idea of a society like this is very intriguing. The characters were well written and it was hard to put the book down. I found myself cheering for many characters including Samara and Denver. Nan reminded me of my Mother. Loved the ending!!"

"Omg’sh! Read this in one day!! Megan Lynch, you rock!! I met you at the 37th annual Kentucky book fair and enjoyed our short conversation, so much so, I purchased this book!! So lead the way to the next chapter! I can’t wait!!!"

"We get to follow several characters as they navigate their spheres: prison, school, work, home. These scenes allow us to see how the system works in all levels of life while also letting us learn about it ourselves. Amazing job at showing rather than telling! Also, one big bonus is that people in this dystopia are POC and mixed race, which is AMAZING and so rare. I love that everyone can see themselves in this world and it feels real!"

I write American Gothic novels that are thoughtful, character-driven, and set in places that feel real and lived in. The stories have a strong sense of atmosphere, complicated communities, and characters you can follow long after the last page.
My books are available on major platforms like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and local bookstores. You can also find them in e-book and audiobook formats for easy access.
Yes. I write every word myself, from first draft to final line. I care a great deal about language, rhythm, and emotional truth, and that means spending time with each page until it feels fully alive.
I send the newsletter when there is something useful or interesting to share, not every few days. You will see behind-the-scenes notes on writing, what I am reading, news about events and releases, and early access to sample chapters.
Many book clubs choose my novels because they blend story and theme. There is plenty to talk about around character choices, setting, and the questions each book raises. I am also happy to join book clubs online when time zones and schedules allow.
